And thats what my work is really about... to emulate life and the joyous little moments it can bring that we sometime miss.... Hope you guys like

studying Skips for my little girl

Depending on the skip its really interesting to see that rather then alternating legs you land on the same leg you left with before you change over to the next....

Progress Reel 2

well less then 8 weeks to go and then it time to finish up our Major Projects! Yikes!!! FRANK!!! were you blinking again!!!
Hehehe but seriously... looking at my progress reel i realised that i need to step it up a notch if i am going to have to finish product i want for Screening night.... i hope that you guys enjoy this though :D

The Little Red Balloon

Thank you frank for sharing these's films with me!!!

Little Red Boat - By Cal arts Students Nelson Boles

Little Boat from nelson boles on Vimeo.

How minimalist can a lead character be in an animated short and still elicit an audience’s emotional reaction? CalArts student Nelson Boles explores the possibilities in his smartly designed The Little Boat. His sparing approach evokes the live-action short The Red Balloon which similarly imbued life into an obstinately mundane object. Boles doesn’t anthropomorphize the titular character; the dinghy’s behavior stems from its interactions with other characters in the film and its surrounding environment. And though its movement is controlled by an external force (wind), we still feel something for the boat. For instance, the shot at 2:10 that shows the boat resolutely pushing forward only to have its mast shattered in half—it’s as heartbreaking a moment as anything that could happen to a more conventional animated character with eyes, hands and legs.

Hating on the sterotype

Just kind of venting on how much i hate how women are drawn in comics. its unrealistically exaggerated and generally they are posed in un realistic poses... i know one of the most interesting things about the artistic world that draws people to it, is the fact that it is unrealistic.... but where is the line!!!!! you would think that people could be abit more creative rather with ideas of story lines and characters then resort to sexual connotations.

Single take- Disney and Warner Brothers style

This is a single take of a anticipation in a suprise movement.... The first one is DIsney style and the other is Warner Brother style. this is in response to Frank Teaching us about aniticipation this week...... Anticipation = Appeal to your animation.... it helps make the movement look more appealing and believeable... remember those arcs as well when doing our anticipation... the aniticpation moves in the opposite direction to the acutal movement.

Fank, our awesome teacher, every once and a while like to set competitions for us students to challenge out creativity. one of the first challenges for this semester asked us to come up with caricatures of us experiencing first contact with a monster.. these are my ones :D
my ice cream one kind of represents my on going battle with my evil monster.... icecream man!! but as you can see i have conerned him on top of a pancake tower where no where to go...... and the others i thought were funny ideas that popped into my head!!! thanks for the oppotunity to be explore our freative juices frank!! looking forward to the next one :D

Planning and animation so far for 2EAPS

These are the two EAPS i have been working on so far.... the Little girl run and the old man bending over. this is only really the second attempt. i know i still need to get the run lighter and bouncey, and the spacing and timing of the old man bending down. but hey its a start

Planning for old man bending down

One very touching and heart renching parts of my films is the scene where the old man gives away the balloon to the little girl. here i have tried to map out the movement as he bends down to give away the balloon... this is the first section of the movement...

My Animal Totem

We designed our animal totems as a figure to look on whilst working on our majoy projects. these animals were meant to be a reflection of our selves now as well as our hopes for the future.... I chose the Chameleon as a symbol change.... its abilitiy to adapt to its surrounding was to encourage me to adapt to the different complications that will most likely come up during production of our majoro Project. i also dressed my chameleon as princess layer as she kicks butt!!!

little girl blink - we blink to think

This morning we have an awesome class with frank on animating eye blinks. We watched Richard Willams as well and he talked about how blinking shows the character thinking. So our class task we animated a simple vanilla eye blink.

The Bomb Shack

this friday we finally got to work with Ian in After Effects :D we experiemented with the timing and spacing of a plane flying by, letting go of a bomb that hits a shack.... unfortunantly in my one the shack does not blow up... but i am sure that we will learn that next week with Ian.... my little animation though simple reminds me of the games i use to play on the computer... hahaha funny that i am animating like it now.... remember simple things done well!!! just answer the questions that are provided in the task rather then adding on questions by making it complicated :D have a good weekend all

contact pose-mood

Yesterday in class with Frank we continued to explore the contact pose and how its important with in our animations....... THE MOOD!!! Frank yelled to us in his soothing voice! its so important! so i want you to not only show this through your pose... which you will do with a straight leg!!! i want to see in the back ground the frame of mind your charcater is in at the moment.... so here is my happy little girl contact pose :D

Video Reference - Contact Pose

Today in our thursday class with Frank we tried to nut out the key poses of our walks for our major porject via video reference. this helped us to realise what the pose would really look like rather than drawing from what we picture in our heads. it also helped me to analise the different parts of the body and how it would move through out the walk/ skip

Little Girl - key pose for walk

Now that the sotryboards and the animatic are done for most of us in the class, its time for us to start the big porject.... we talked about the EAP's we would need in our stories and one of fanks major points was that we need to practise our walks and runs more than once!!! so hopefully we will be showing some more of our animated work besides our major project.
part of our prep is knowing the four steps in a walk..... and what is the step that conveys the characters attitude?..... its the contact pose.
so here is my contact pose for my little girl

Just Crazy thinking that probably doesn't really make sense to any one else

Hello to all the animators and other creative people out there..
I hope that every one enjoyed the weekend just passed..... Easter holidays are always special... whether it be for the celebration of christ sacrifice for man or simply the excitement of finding chocolate eggs and bunnies at the end of your bed. i happily enjoyed both reminsing and over dosing on chocolate..... haha still getting over my chocolate hang over.... but hey thats the story of my life :D
One thing that i have been doing alot of lately is pondering on my life.... i'm sure we all ask ourselves where we are going with our lives... who are we and what is the point. We are constantly bombarded by ideas and opinions, it gets harder to listen to your own thoughts and form your own beliefs.
There is so much to absorb and some times life feels overwhelming. its times like this that i like to get back to the basics..... what is important to me?.... what do i need?
Generally it all comes back to relationships with other people...... There is nothing like feeling like you can share and experience life with the people around you. a joke, a tear, a smile, a hug..... makes the biggest difference when we take the time to be in the moment.
When we think about whats really important... all the little things we bicker about seem pointless and a waste of time....
life is for us to be happy, we are meant to enjoy it!
i forget it sometimes.....
i'm grateful for the oppotunities i have had to grow this past year.... however small that might be that i have grown its still a step forward then where i was. and i am grateful for the amazing people around me that i learn from everyday :D
Looking forward to the critiques tomorrow to see what everyone has come up with :D

Sometimes the Stars

Sometimes the Stars from The Audreys on Vimeo.

Sometimes the Stars" is a gorgeous new song from Adelaide band The Audreys, taken from their 2010 album of the same name. The accompanying short animated film, produced by Luke Jurevicius and directed by Ari Gibson & Jason Pamment, is about a lost girl's journey through a surreal landscape, and her yearning to make a connection in this distant yet strangely familiar world.

Maya- Max's core bounce

its abit wonky.... i'm still getting my head around the mathamatics of everything

Another class task envolving the timing and spacing of a coin moving from one side of the page to the other.... This 2 second sequence illustrates the dynamics or mathamatics by which maya would calculate the extreme/key poses of a jump.... Hinting to animators the importance of undertanding timing and spaceing... it is the Animator that creates the animation not the computer!!!!

Take this Animation!!! - 'I' desing in maya with max

just a random sketch i thought i would put up that i did

Max's first awkward steps

Today was a much anicipated day for us second years.... The day..... we learned.... to walk. Like everything in life, one of the most important things we can ever learn is to walk...Those first steps whether literal of metaphoric, provide us with confidence to run, jump, leap..... we got to animate maxs first steps... and although they are a little awkward. its the start of something beautiful :D

Spirit Horse

During our lunch break Scheree put on the wonderful movie - Spirit.... to be honest it didn't appeal to me when it first came out... but watchig it now i reallly appreciate how they tell the story mainly through the animation and music rather than dialogue.
i felt inspired to try to draw a horse as i never really draw much besides female charcters and buff men hahaha....

the is no 'I' in Animation.... o wait there is

hahaha yes i know another lame joke of mine... but hey thats what a blog can be for right? any way here is my very quick sketch up designs for the i in animation project we are going to have in Maya :D
i'm not sure wether i like this one.... i like the slinky idea. but this one should be easy enough in Maya to animate :D

moment of contact for max

hey guys
we looked at the moment of contact in iron giant and how to train your dragon. Its amazing when you stop and deconstruct how certain seens are constructed to create anitcipation through timig and spaccing.... its powerful
is it the anicipation that makes the touch so powerful or is it the touch by its self?? i really think that the two need each other either wise both are ineffective :D

i hope you like this frank... i don't necessaryily have something for him to reach out to.... but its pretty dramatic!!! the question is what is he yelling out!!! hehehehe
enjoy
