Auguste Rodin " The Thinker" makes you think about thinking

in class today we explored the perculiar pose of Aguste Rodin's statue "The Thinker".
have you every noticed that the elbow of the arm the rests on the chin is resting the opposite leg...???
As Frank pointed out to the class, that as human beings we don't natural form this position when in a thinking mode....
so why did Agustus Rodin do this to the statue???
becuase the figure is twisted the line of action creates emotion and energy to the overall composition of the statue.
sooooo...... class task today... Max gets to star as the THINKER!!!!

i hope you like, it was difficult to make the arms not fold into the rib cage.... its important that maxs breathes during his intense thinking :D

Where will my Dream take me this year

HEY hey there fellow animators out ther in the world....
Another year begins and so the animation adventure at the southbank institute is drawing to a close. i know its only the beginging, but a year goes past quickly and you come to the point, a fork in the road.... what now?
so what happens at the end... where will i be going... where will i be at the end of 2011??
My MAJOR goal for the end of the year is i want to graduate from this advance diploma and successfully pass QCA. Everything else is a huge bonus! haha
At the end of the year i want to feel like i explored and created a port folio that is asthetically appealing and evoking....
I have often been very hesitant to open my mind and embrace my creative side... so i don't want to hold back this year.
i really want to improve my skills and knowledge of how to use the programs.
My hopes and dreams in the end are to go work for disney/ pixar/ dreamworks as a story borad/ character concept artist!!
as JOE GRANT said ... what if you could wake up every morning and do the thing you love!
thats all i want to do!
i want to dear to dream when no one else will....
and i hope that will show in my work!!! its going to be a busy year, i say bring it on!!!!!

THE QUEENSLAND FLOODS

I dont feel that i can contribute much in a natural disaster like this.... but if i can create something with my art that can inspire the people with the means, to get up and do something, then i think its worth something :D

It just keeps getting better

Its been a hard few days with the horrific flooding in Toowoomba and the Brisbane floods as well.... Many families have lost everything. And i am really feeling for the families who have lost loved ones... especially young children. It breaks my heart.
Even though i am safe on the sunshine coast we are affected as well.... we are low on supplies here on the coast.... As soon as word broke out that there would be a food shortage, every one attacked the main food chains like Shae and I on a one dollar day at Seven Eleven.....
I am happy to say that my family are well stocked in food storage so we will be fine.... unfortunately my brother has come down with a serious case of amonia.... so he has been in hospital for the last few days.... it just never seems to stop does it :C oh well we just got to keep moving on
as premier anna bly said.... "it might be breaking our hearts, but it will not break out will"
i hope you are all safe, if you can help out where ever you can i am sure it will be much appreciated in the affected areas... catch yah when the new term starts :D

Follow your Dream

At last Tangled has arrived at the cinemas!!!!.... and as a big Disney fan this movie sure did not disappoint..... i was looking forward to the amazing animation and at the same time scared that the film might be ruined by a over the top stereotypical and corny story. but as usual this disney movie carried feelings of hope, adventure, love, betrayal, excitement, friends ship, longing, angst.... from the very first song you are wrapped in the strings of the disney dream... and like puppets you are carried along moving with every tug of emotion.....
scarlly enough i felt very connected to the character 'Flower' or 'Rapunzel'.... the scene where she has just left the tower and she is embracing the world around her.... i reacted the same way when i left home and ventured to brisbane to follow my dreams as an animator......
i felt that this movie drew alot from previous disney classics... reminding me of films such as the hunchback...., the little mermaid, and sinbad( and yes i know that Sinbad is not a Dinsey film) .... and yet collectively it still felt orignal.....
i enjoyed this movie immensly and i hope to see it again soon :D

memo to me..... do not suggest to go and see a Newly released Disney movie on a first date.... the fact that i get so involved in the movie scares people away.
another memo to me.... yes pulling faces and jumping up and down in chair giggling is not cool
hehe i am looking forward to another year of animation at southbank.... missing the class alot

MEGA MIND

Today i was privliged to see the recent animation by dream works.... Mega Mind.
and it was fun sitting in the cinema next to my big brother Dan analysing the principles of animation.... well i was analysing... my brother was just sitting there and enjoying the film.........
i personally thought that they did a very good job :D the textures and shapes of the characters was very asethetic...... humour was amusing... had me laughing out loud in afew spots.....
there was one point towards the end where i so roxys character running towards titan and mega mind.... she was in the background so not the main focal point of the scene........i though her run looked abit off..... not as believeable.... more like the fake runs your see in alot of computer games..... meaning that their legs are moving but the law of gravity has not been applied...... no offence intended to computer game lovers out there...... this was only at a first glance.... i'll have to see it again to see if my initial observation was correct......
i think the thing about this movie that i enjoy the most was how much it reminded me of our animation class...... i remember this one day in class when we all started singing the song " close to you" well the only part of that song we really know.... which is the LA LA LA LA LA........ LA LA LA LA LA LA...... and you know the rest..... well frank would.... how could he forget ..... it was his wedding song:D
..... any way it just was amusing to me that they used that song once mega mind had taking over metro city.... it reminded me of class..... over all i really enjoyed mega mind as a movie...... it wasn't to corny and there were alot of jokes that every one could relate to:D

i never got to really say good bye to the class before we hit holidays.... i just wanted to say thank you for an awesome year..... i have certain learn't alot this year from every one.... and i have felt so priviliged to be in such a unique class of creative individuals :D
i wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year...... i am looking forward to joining you all as second years next year :D it shall be fun :D
p.s. sean did you get your secret santa present from me?..... yes i was your secret santa :D and i hope you liked it..... chocolate sibling :D
any way i am just carrying on :D until i have another urge to blog..... BOMVOAGE!!!!
