Little Red Boat - By Cal arts Students Nelson Boles
Little Boat from nelson boles on Vimeo.
How minimalist can a lead character be in an animated short and still elicit an audience’s emotional reaction? CalArts student Nelson Boles explores the possibilities in his smartly designed The Little Boat. His sparing approach evokes the live-action short The Red Balloon which similarly imbued life into an obstinately mundane object. Boles doesn’t anthropomorphize the titular character; the dinghy’s behavior stems from its interactions with other characters in the film and its surrounding environment. And though its movement is controlled by an external force (wind), we still feel something for the boat. For instance, the shot at 2:10 that shows the boat resolutely pushing forward only to have its mast shattered in half—it’s as heartbreaking a moment as anything that could happen to a more conventional animated character with eyes, hands and legs.

Hating on the sterotype
Just kind of venting on how much i hate how women are drawn in comics. its unrealistically exaggerated and generally they are posed in un realistic poses... i know one of the most interesting things about the artistic world that draws people to it, is the fact that it is unrealistic.... but where is the line!!!!! you would think that people could be abit more creative rather with ideas of story lines and characters then resort to sexual connotations.

Single take- Disney and Warner Brothers style
This is a single take of a anticipation in a suprise movement.... The first one is DIsney style and the other is Warner Brother style. this is in response to Frank Teaching us about aniticipation this week...... Anticipation = Appeal to your animation.... it helps make the movement look more appealing and believeable... remember those arcs as well when doing our anticipation... the aniticpation moves in the opposite direction to the acutal movement.

My Animal Totem

We designed our animal totems as a figure to look on whilst working on our majoy projects. these animals were meant to be a reflection of our selves now as well as our hopes for the future.... I chose the Chameleon as a symbol change.... its abilitiy to adapt to its surrounding was to encourage me to adapt to the different complications that will most likely come up during production of our majoro Project. i also dressed my chameleon as princess layer as she kicks butt!!!

little girl blink - we blink to think
This morning we have an awesome class with frank on animating eye blinks. We watched Richard Willams as well and he talked about how blinking shows the character thinking. So our class task we animated a simple vanilla eye blink.
